ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY

“It is very important that we teach our children the correct way in which to approach dogs and ensure that they are equipped with knowledge, safety and understanding about canine behavior, so that this can take them into their adult life, to live harmoniously alongside animals.”

VANDERPETS Therapy Dog was establish due to the lack of knowledge and training we found in schools and with dogs and there handlers that come to schools whether it was for reading or to support a child in school with learning difficulties. We BELIEVE that every dog should undergo any sort of training whether they are a guide dog, service dog, emotional support dog, or therapy dog. I probably cannot stress this enough that you CANNOT take your pet at home and decide tomorrow you can take him to the school and now he is a Therapy Dog. All dogs need to meet a training standard to support whether it is a guide dog, service dog or therapy dog. We are here to help, support and guide schools who are thinking about or already have an assisted therapy dog in there school. We aim to provide peace of mind to staff, pupils, governors and parents that our members that have reached approved safety and well-being standards for the children and therapy dog. We believe that there should be a high level of animal welfare, coupled with a purposeful role for the dog within the school community.

VANDERPETS are here to educate the children so that they can understand canine communication and behavior. Our therapy dogs are trained and are here to support schools and children. If you would like to be apart of this, then please get in touch so that we can send you a link to our members portal where you will find lots of important information, essential check lists, learning downloads, course materials and our member application form.

  • CHICHI Reading Buddy - Boost the children’s motivation to read

Reading is an area where children sometimes struggle and often have barriers to reading and these can be difficult to break down. VANDERPETS CHICHI Therapy Dog companion is non-judgmental and allows the child to read out loud without feeling pressurized.

Allowing the dog to read by the child side is a soothing and calming experience, however, it is impossible to deliver this to every child, so it is very important that a solid action plan is put together of how the dog can raise standards for the whole school.
